For your three short papers, here are the expectations:
- Length: 1000±250 words
- Focus: Your paper should do the same thing that the sample analysis sections in the Critical Approaches readings. You need not explain the elements of the critical approach. You should briefly explain your choice of text / artifact. The bulk of the discussion should be on the details of the analysis, applying the critical approach. Introduction / conclusion should be brief.
- You should use a single critical approach.
- You will usually pick a single text or artifact, unless the critical approach requires more than this.
- One of your papers should analyze a comic text that is not one of the required readings. Another paper must analyze a non-comics text or artifact. The third paper will be of your choice but also cannot be an analysis of a required text.
- Your paper should be carefully revised and substantially free of grammatical errors and stylistic infelicities.
- You need not do outside research on the critical approach, though you are welcome to do so. You may need to do outside research related to the text, author, or context if the critical approach requires it.
- Cite all sources appropriately. Do not plagiarize. Use good quotation practices (“quote sandwiches” etc).
